Dental Bonding in Sedro-Woolley, WA

Dental bondings are tooth-colored materials that provide both cosmetic and restorative enhancements for your smile. This non-invasive procedure can improve the overall appearance and restore minor areas of damage such as a chip or mild decay in a tooth. At Sedro Woolley Family Dental Center, we provide bonding services to restore and repair teeth, increase oral function and conceal noticeable smile flaws.

What Are Dental Bondings?

Dental bondings are tooth-colored restorations composed of composite resin. This material is biocompatible and chemically bonds with natural tooth structure efficiently, delivering an exceptionally natural yet durable finish. Composite resin constitutes a mixture of acrylic glass and plastic. It is available in various shades and can be tinted to blend effortlessly with natural teeth.

What Are the Uses of Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is ideal for addressing the following conditions:

  • Decayed teeth
  • Chipped or cracked teeth
  • Discoloration
  • Gapped teeth
  • Misshapen teeth
  • Teeth that look shorter
  • Exposed tooth roots due to gum recession
  • Teeth that have amalgam fillings whose color stands out

What to Expect During a Bonding Procedure?

Dental bonding is a marginally invasive procedure that involves very minimal preparation. Anesthesia is generally not needed unless the bonding is used to fill a decayed tooth or if the tooth needs to be shaved to alter its shape. Our dentist will use a shade chart to closely match the color of the composite resin with that of your natural teeth.

First, the tooth that needs to be treated will be cleaned and dried. A rubber dam and sterile gauze will be used to keep treatment areas dry since composite resin is applied in liquid form and sticks best on dry areas.

The affected tooth will then be prepared by soft etching to create a slightly roughened surface for better adhesion to the bonding material. This material is a putty-like resin that is then cast into the desired shape. After the required amount of composite resin has been placed over the affected area, a laser curing light will be used to toughen the bonding material.

To ensure a natural-looking and beautiful result, final adjustments can be made by smoothing and filing down the bonding material. After treatment, patients can immediately notice an improvement in the appearance of their teeth. The complete process takes about thirty to sixty minutes, and the total time in the dental chair will depend on the number of teeth undergoing the bonding process.
